Overview

In joint providership with the American College of Physician Advisors, Cleveland Clinic’s 5th Annual Physician Advisors Symposium will explore the critical role of the physician advisor in the optimization of the patient journey. Participants will hear the latest developments in healthcare and regulatory updates on government and commercial plans. Faculty will address efficiency and coordination of care, as well as physician advisor hot topics.

By the end of this course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of healthcare management, drive quality improvement, and lead their organizations toward better patient outcomes.

After completing this educational activity, participants will be able to do the following:

  • Describe how physician advisors contribute to optimizing care across the patient journey.
  • Evaluate key operational factors that influence patient throughput and experience, including admission decisions, hospital command center models, Hospital Care at Home, discharge planning, scheduling, and prior authorization workflows.
  • Explore pathways to reduce avoidable denials and improve payer collaboration by examining the impact of denials on patient experience, utilization management practices, and opportunities for mitigation.
  • Explain the role of physician advisors within the interdisciplinary treatment team, including how they support care progression, documentation excellence, utilization review, denial prevention, and communication across clinical and administrative teams.
  • Discuss how physician advisors can impact healthcare leadership and system-level improvement, including their evolving role from bedside clinical insight to organizational strategy, operational performance, and boardroom-level decision-making.
